FA
and League Initiatives
to improve
behaviour at games |
Those at the December management meeting
will know that the FA are introducing initiatives to improve
parental behaviour at games. While this is not a major issue at
the club we are required to conform.
Pitch markings - You are asked to mark a
line about a yard back from the touch lines behind which
supporters are required to stand. For the moments this can
probably best be done by setting down a line of cones say 20
yards each side of the half way line on each side. Highfield
Park are looking into whether they can put in a permanent line
in the New Year (there is probably not enough room between
pitches 1 and 2) but for the time being use the cones. West
Herts League teams please note that this is now a league
requirement
Match delegate - You are reminded that you
must have a "match delegate" who is required to report to the
referee 15 minutes before the game. The intention is that the
referee would first approach the match delegate if concerned
over any parents behaviour. Ideally this should be one of your
parents (preferably not the most volatile) but could be yourself
if you preferred.

Under 21 Manager Stuart Pearce and goalkeepers Joe Hart (Man City) &
Ben Alnwick (Spurs) were at Sandringham School in St Albans to
support the clubs coaching session.
England Under-21s are busy
preparing for their sold out European Championship qualifier against
Bulgaria in nearby Milton Keynes on 16 November but Pearce and some
of his players took time out of their schedule to watch the school
coaching sessions which are run and organised on a regular basis by
St. Albans City Youth.
The coaching sessions, which are funded by a grant from FA supported
sports charity, The Football Foundation, also includes local primary
school, Wheatfields, are a big part of St. Albans City Youth’s
community programme.
Club spokesperson, David Wray, commented: "The Football Foundation
training grant allow the club's more experienced coaches to go out
into the community and attract and train new young coaches.
“The aim is to develop the coaches to FA Level One standard so they
gain career skills, become role models and become useful members of
the local community.”
The club, founded in 1971, has trained over 60 young coaches to
Level One standard to date and they also hold FA Charter Standard
Community status which is an official seal of quality football
provision from Soho Square.
St. Albans City Youth run over 37 teams for boys, girls and disabled
players and are Hertfordshire FA’s Charter Standard Community Club
of the Year.

Player, Coach, Referee,
Volunteer, Parent, Teacher, Supporter. All of you are vital
to the fabric of football in England, and for the first time
ever, The Football Association wants to hear from you all.
The FA is developing a new
strategy beneath the elite professional leagues that will
modernise the national game over the next six years, towards
the London 2012 Olympics.
In the largest public
consultation in the Governing Body’s 143-year history, The
FA wants to engage the views of as diverse a range of
participants as possible.
The consultation will seek
to improve the game which is the focal point every week for
over 1.5 million people in 123,000 teams across the country.
TheFA.com is currently
hosting a national online consultation, consisting of 10
different questionnaires, targeting adult players, coaches,
referees, parents and teachers, as well as those whose
involvement until now has been more recreational.
“This is a personal invitation to help The FA in its quest
to shape the future of football and to challenge our
thinking on what The FA needs to do to keep developing the
game”
said The FA’s Director of Football Development
Sir Trevor Brooking.
The FA will deliver its new
grassroots strategy in spring 2007. To have your say, visit

Soccer
Parent |
|
As the coach of a children's
team you have a lot of responsibilities. Soccer Parent is
designed with coaches and parents in mind to provide
guidance on specific areas that focus on the key issues
involved when a child joins a football team.
As well
as being designed to be informative, fun and engaging,
one of the key aspects of the course is that coaches are
given advice to assist in gaining positive contributions
from parents as well as understanding issues on specific
areas such as child welfare and attitudes.
Soccer
Parent is a completely free online course that is
available to anybody that registers with FA Learning –
The FA’s Educational Provider. Everyone that completes
the course and achieves the pass mark can immediately
print off an accredited certificate directly from the
website.
So
