St Albans City Youth FC

Annual 6 A Side 2005

Over the weekend of 4th and 5th June, St Albans City Youth FC hosted their annual six-a-side tournament at Sandringham School in which 140 teams took part with over 1,100 girls and boys playing football over the two days with ages for the girls from Under 11's to Under 13's and boys from Under 8's to Under 12's.

   

Ex St Albans City Youth, Non League International and Dagenham, & Redbridge player Craig Mackail-Smith was their both days to present the trophies.

Girls Under 12's

The Under 12's Girls won their age group by coming top of their table with four wins and one defeat (1-0), which was against runners-up Bushey. In the Saints first match they beat Harpenden 4-1 then they had victories over Ware 1-0, Luton 1-0 and finally Letchworth 3-0.

Girls Under 11's

The Saints two Under 11 Girls teams played with the "B" squad finishing in third place with two wins and two defeats. The "A" squad lost all four matches, 2-1 to Technicolor, 6-1 to Denham, 3-0 to Harvesters and finally 3-1 to the "B" squad.

Girls Under 13's

The Under 13's Girls played five matches, winning one, drawing one with three defeats.

Boys Under 11's - Richard Thomas Shield

The City Youth "A" team lost their first match against Park Street 2-0 despite hitting the woodwork four times. In their next game they drew 0-0 against Hemel Aces. Their third game against London Colney they won 2-0 with two goals from Niall McGowan. They then beat Muswell Hill 1-0 with Alex Goldstone scoring. In their final group match they defeated Harvesters 2-0 with goals from Joe Madley and Niall McGowan. They then played Wormley B in the quarter final but lost to two breakaway goals.

The City Youth "B" team got off to a great start with a 2-0 win over Park Street in Group C with goals from Harvey Scott and Toby Sakata. In their second match they beat Cheshunt 1-0 with a gaol from Harvey Scott. They then lost 1-0 to Parkfield and also went down to Boreham Wood Youth A. However in between these defeats they won 3-0 against Harvesters with goals from Harvey Scott, Toby Sakata and David Towndrow. This left the Saints tied on 9 points with two other teams but missing out on going any further by goal difference.

The Under 11's final was won by Boreham Wood Youth 5-4 after a penalty shootout against Wormley B after the match finished 0-0.

Boys Under 8's

There was also a non-competitive Under 8's Tournament taking place in which all the players taking part received a medal.

Boys Under 9's - Ben Lacey Shield

The Saints had two Under 9 teams playing on the Saturday, the Under 9's A were most unlucky in that they scored seventeen goals and only conceding only two in their five group matches but could only finish in second place and so missed out on a semi final spot.

The Under 9's B came top of their group with four wins and a draw. The Under 9's B played Letchworth B in the semi final with Daniel Casotti scoring the only goal of the match in the final minute. In the other semi final Harvesters, defeated Letchworth A by one goal to nil with Aaron Gwyther scoring for Harvesters.

In the final Harvesters beat the Under 9's two nil with a goal in each half from Nicky Yates and Jack Nevin.

Boys Under 10's - Gavin Pendred Shield

The Under 10's A won their group on goal difference from Barnfield with both teams recording two wins and two draws with one defeat each.

In the semi final the Saints won 1-0 with a fine goal from Cormac O'Regan. In the other semi final Omonia beat London Colney A 1-0 with a goal from Luke Kelly.

In the other Under 10 groups the City Youth "B" team won two, drew one and lost two to finish in fourth place. The City Youth "C" team having only played a few matches together put on a good show but went down by a single goal in three group games.

In the final the match between the Saints and Omonia saw Omonia win 2-0 with goals from Luke Kelly and Tanahea Abrahams.

Boys Under 12's - Joe Horgan Trophy

In the Under 12's competition the Saints had 3 teams, with the "A" team winning Group C on goal difference from Wymondley.

The "A" team beat Abbots Youth 2-0 then lost 2-1 to Wymondley. They next defeated Stevenage A 3-0 with goals from Dean Kemp 2 and Goro Nishioka. In their fourth match goals from Lee Close and Charlie Hunter saw them beat Hemel Aces 2-0 while in their final group match they had a 0-0 draw against London Colney.

The Saints C played five matches winning one, drawing one and losing three. The Saints B picked up a point in a 0-0 draw against Cuffley Youth but went down in their other group games.

In their quarter final they played Birchwood Rangers B and with the match finishing goalless after extra time the Saints A won on penalties 4-3.

In the semi final they beat Hemel Aces A 3-0 with goals from Dean Kemp, Kieran Donavan and Lee Close.

Boreham Wood 200 B beat Harvesters in the other semi final 2-0 to set up a final against the Saints A.

In the final the Saints A came from behind to seal victory 3-1 after extra time with goals from Charlie Hunter, Dean Kemp and Lee Close.

 

Over the two days their were over 300 matches played with 625 goals scored (not including penalty shoot-outs).
