21 new
Sports Coaches make the grade
St Albans
City Youth are a local charitable organisation who provide organised
sport, training sessions and football matches for the young people in St
Albans. They have over 550 members.
Part of
their community programme sees them working with the local schools
through the School Sports Partnership with the idea of producing some
new, enthusiastic coaches. Experienced coaches have been training the
six form students whilst providing PE lessons and after school clubs in
the local Junior Schools.
21 local
students all gave up their half term break to be assessed by The FA
Learning body. Part of the course covers such things as Emergency First
Aid which takes place in the classroom as well as leading a full
coaching session on the training field. An independent assessor makes
sure they have reached the required standard.
All of
the students passed the tests and are ready ready and qualified to work
with local teams. Club Coach David Wray said "It is hoped that these
coaches will perform important coaching roles in local clubs and with
the younger teams in their own school"
Schools
that participated this year included Francis Bacon, Sandringham and
Verulam together with Cunningham Hill, Fleetville and Wheatfield's
Junior Schools.
Thanks go
to the Football Foundation for supporting this community programme. This
is fourth year this programme has been running in the area and has
seen 90 coaches make the grade with a number going onto a higher level
of coaching.
