St Albans
City Youth FC staged their Annual Six-A-Side Tournament at
Sandringham School which also included a Girls Football
Festival of Football from local junior Schools as well as
the normal age groups for Boys and Girls Club teams. Over
150 teams took part from over 50 clubs and Schools over the
two days of the festival.
Under 9's - Ben Lacy Trophy
On Pitch 1
in group A the City youth Under 9's Team "B" finished in
second place with three wins, a draw and one defeat.
The beat Harvesters East 3-0 in the first match, then
followed up with a 2-0 win over Victoria Park and then a 1-0
win over Berkhamsted Raiders. They drew 0-0 with
Wheathampstead Wanderers and their only defeat was against
the group winners Comet Sports A who won all five of their
group matches. The Goalscorers for team 2B" were Ben Gosling
2, Connor Casey 2, Harry Ross and Adam Skinner.
On Pitch 2
in group B Team "A" topped the table with five wins
which included a 3-0 victory over Welwyn Pegasus C, 2-0 over
Belmont United, 1-0 against Headstone Manor, 4-0 over
Harpenden Colts and finally 2-0 against Comet Sports.
Scoring the goals were David Etheridge 6, Tom Levy 3, Alfie
Booth 2, and Ned Robinson. In second place was Headstone
Manor with four wins and one defeat.
Also
coming top of their group were Team "C" on pitch 3. Although
they started with a 1-0 defeat in their first match with
Welwyn Pegasus B this was quickly followed by four
successive 2-0 victories against Sun Postal, Comet Sports,
Cuffley Crusaders and Berkhamsted Raiders. Alex Cox led the
scorers with six, whilst there were singles for Oliver
Astley and Ollie Barnett. Cuffley Crusaders finished in
second spot in group C with three wins, one draw and one
defeat.
In group D
on pitch 4 the winners of the group were Soccer Stars City
with thirteen points from 4 wins and one draw with nine
goals for and none against. In second place with eight
points was Parkfield Youth who had two wins, two draws and
one defeat..
So to the
semi-finals which saw Team 2A" play Comets A and Team "C"
against Soccer Stars City.
In the
first semi-final Soccer Stars City proved to strong for the
SACYFC team "C" as they went down 4-0. Scoring the goals for
the Soccer Stars were Ben Allbone 2, Tom Maton and Sean
Whaler.
In the
second semi-final Tam "A" played Comets A with the first
period ended 0-0 with Tom levy having an effort tipped
around the post just before the break. Early in the second
half Tom Levy hit the post and up popped David Etheridge to
score from close range from the rebound. It become 2-0 when
Tom levy scored from a low drive. The following a long throw
from Alfie Booth David Etheridge made the final score 3-0
with a firm header.
The Under
9's Final saw the SACYFC Team "A" play Soccer Stars City and
in an exciting match a fine goal from David Etheridge put
the Team "A" 1-0 up. Soon it became 2-0 when Tom Levy
tucked the ball away from close range. The Soccer Stars
pulled a goal back through Harvey Bland.
Player of
the match for the Saints was Alfie Booth whilst their stand
in keeper Youness Bakhti also had an excellent game. Final
result 2-1 to the SACYFC Team "A".
Under 10's - Gavin Pendred Trophy
In the
Under 10 Competition two City Youth teams played in group A
on pitch 5, firstly Team "B" finished in third place with
two wins, one draw and two defeats. Their two wins were a
5-0 victory against Headstone Manor and a 2-1 win over
fellow club mates Team "E". Jake Anthony scored 4 goals,
Bryn Williams 2 and Linden Gabriel 1 goal. Team "E" started
off with a 0-0 draw with London Colney Colts. They then had
a 2-1 win over Harvesters North, then a 1-1 draw with
Watford Youth Sports. This was followed by two defeats, 2-1
against Headstone Manor and the same result playing club
mates team "B". Winners of Group A were Harvesters North
with four wins, whilst Watford Youth Sports finished in
second place with three wins and a draw from their five
matches.
SACYFC
Team "A" played in Group B on pitch 6 and although they won
their first match 1-0 against Victoria Park with a goal from
Bradley Hodge they then suffered three defeats against
Harpenden, Everett Rovers and Tring Tornados, then in their
last match they drew 0-0 with St Albans Rangers Red.
Harpenden Anacondas finished top of the group with four wins
and a draw with a goal difference of plus twelve and Everett
Rovers finished as runners up in the group also on 13 points
but with a goal difference of plus nine.
SACYFC
Team "D" took part in Group C on pitch 7 finishing in third
place, undefeated with four draws and one win which was a
3-0 victory over Cuffley FC B. The drawn matches were 1-1
Comet Sports, 1-1 Tring Tornados, 1-1 Headstone Manor and
0-0 against Croxley Guild. Their goalscorers were Stephen
Heather 2, Will Mattin, Luke Houghton, Charlie Lunniss and
Jacob Brockenhaur.
The
winners of Group C were, like group B decided on goal
difference, Comet Sports took top spot with eleven points
and plus eight goals, Croxley Guild finished second
with a goal difference of plus six.
Playing
Watford Youth Sports, SACYFC Team "C" in group D on pitch 8
lose 1-0 but they then bounce back with a 2-1 win over
Headstone Manor with goals from Oliver Astley and Nick
Grossi. In their next three matches they drew with Bourne
End Juniors 0-0, followed by two defeats against
Wheathampstead Wanderers and Cuffley FC with Nick Grossi
scoring the Saints only goal in the last two matches.
Cuffley FC
A won Group D with five wins, scoring twelve goals. Bourne
End Juniors finished in second place with two wins, two
draws and one defeat, scoring ten goals in their five
matches.
Two goals
from Josh Price plus one from Cameron Brooks sealed a final
place which saw Comets defeat Cuffley FC A 3-0.
In the
other semi-final Harvesters North were taken to extra time
and then penalties which saw them book their place in the
final after they beat Harpenden Anacondas. James
Parker-Mendez scored Harvesters goal in normal time after a
1-1 draw. So to penalties which saw Harvesters North win 5-3
in the shoot out.
In the
final it was Harvesters North who took the trophy with a
fine 2-0 win over Comets with goals from John Nott and Liam
Walters.
Under 11's - Richard Thomas Trophy
ST ALBANS City Youth had
eight teams taking part in the U11s Annual six-a-side
tournament held at Sandringham School.
In Group A Team A played five
matches losing four of them against Headstone Manor,
Harpenden Colts, Parkfield and Sherradswood recording their
only victory over club mates Team E 1-0. Team E lost three
other games to Parkfield, Headstone Manor and Harpenden with
a goal from Joe Weaver earning them a 1-1 draw against
Sherradswood. Goalkeeper Jordan Wonnacott was in top form
for Team E despite the results. Parkfield were the winners
of Group A after they accumulated 13 points from their five
games and scoring 14 goals. Headstone Manor finished in
second place with four wins and one defeat to join Parkfield
in the quarter finals.
In Group B, Team C started
off with a 1-1 draw against Ware Youth thanks to a goal from
Josh Bean. In their other matches they beat Aylesbury
Athletic 3-0, Wealdstone 1-0, Flamstead 6-0 and SACYFC
Warriors 2-0. Getting the goals were Max Sharpe (four), Akim
Akimbinu (three), Josh Bean (three) and Joe Lowthian (two)
to finish top of the goup with 13 points. The Warriors drew
two games, firstly 0-0 against Wealdstone and then 1-1
against Flamstead with Connor Glascoe scoring the goal. In
their two remaining games they were beaten by Aylesbury and
Ware, who finished second in the group with three wins and
two draws. Team North lost their first game in Group C 1-0
to Flamstead, and were then beaten 2-1 by Sherradswood with
Alex Levy grabbing the Saints goal but they recovered to
pick up nine points in their remaining matches to finish
second in the group.
A 4-0 win over Ware was
followed with victories over London Colney 4-0 and a 2-0 win
over SACYFC D. Scoring the goals were Toby Parker (five),
Max Ball (two), Alex Levy (two) and Matthew Harvey.
The other team in Group C were Team D who went down by the
odd goal in three in their opening match with Alex Frankl
scoring their goal. Defeats against Ware and Flamstead
followed before an inspired performance from ‘keeper Felix
Hull earned them a 0-0 draw with Sherradswood. Flamstead
finished in top spot with 13 points while SACYFC North went
through to the quarter finals ahead of London Colney thanks
to their superior goal difference.
SACYFC had two teams in Group
D with Team F and Team B taking part. Team F lost four games
with their only goal of the tournament coming from Sian
Khan-Boylan in a 2-1 defeat to Parkfield. They did pick up a
point from a 0-0 draw with London Colney though. Team B
recorded a 2-1 win over London Colney and a 3-0 win over
club-mates Team F. A 4-0 and 2-1 defeat followed before they
finished with a 0-0 draw with Acorn Raiders. Team B’s goals
came from Alex Cleaver (two), Stuart Peet (two), Oliver
Shepherd and Ellis Allan with ‘keeper Sam Cornmell pulling
off some good saves. Welwyn Pegasus won Group D on goal
difference ahead of Parkfield Youth.
In the quarter finals
Parkfield B beat Parkfield A 1-0 with the goal coming from
Dylan Rose. Headstone Manor recorded a 1-0 win over Welwyn
Pegasus and Flamstead beat Ware Youth 4-3 on penalties after
their game finished 0-0. SACYFC were guaranteed a team in
the semi-finals as Team C took on Team North. Akim Akimbinu
put Team C 1-0 up but in the last minute Toby Parker
snatched an equaliser. Team North won 4-3 on penalties with
Alex Levy, Matthew Harvey, Toby Parker and James Cameron all
successful. Josh Bean, Lewis Cutmore and Max Sharpe all
converted for Team C. Team North then beat Flamstead 2-0 in
the semi-finals thanks to goals from Matt Harvey and Toby
Parker while Parkfield B saw off Headstone Manor 2-0
courtesy fo goals from Seni Oyewumi and Nicolas Joannou.
Seni Oyewumi kept up his good
goalscoring form in the final netting the only goal of the
game, his sixth in the tournament, to secure the Richard
Thomas Trophy for Parkfield.
Under
12's - Joe Horgan Trophy
THE final age group in the St
Albans City Youth FC six-a-side tournament at Sandringham
School were the U12s section with three City Youth teams
taking part.
In Group A it was Headstone Manor who topped the group with
four wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding only four in their
five matches. In second place was Comets Sports Club with
three wins, one draw and one defeat to finish with 10
points.
City Youth Team A won all five matches in Group B to top the
table. Team A had a 1-0 win over Hemel Aces Gold and this
was followed by a 3-2 win against London Colney, a 4-0
victory over Bourne End, a 2-0 defeat of Markall AFC and
finally a 1-0 win over Cuffley Warriors. Team A's
goalscorers were Alex Gilbert (five), Nathan Kelly (two),
Shay Emerton, Harry Gilbert, Ed Lindel and Jack Lachau. In
second spot were Cuffley Warriors with three wins, a draw
and a defeat. Their biggest win was a 4-0 victory over
Bourne End.
In Group C, City Youth Team C started off with a 2-1 win
over Markall AFC and a 2-0 win over Harvesters. Two draws
followed before a fine 4-0 win over Hemel Aces ensured they
finished top of the group. Team C's goals came courtesy of
Callum Glennister (three), Anthony Gosling (three), Kieran
Thorne, Jamie Moroney and Josh Haran, Harvesters finished
second with three wins, one draw and a defeat to their name.
City Youth Team B won only one of their five games, a 3-1
defeat of Bletchley thanks to goals from Ben Collins, Jack
Collard and Matt Cross. A goal from Ben Collins was not
enough for Team B as they went down 2-1 to Welwyn Pegasus
and they lost their other three games by a 1-0 scoreline.
Little Gaddesden topped the group with four wins and a draw
with London Lions second with three wins, a draw and a
defeat.
In the quarter finals Headstone Manor beat London Lions 6-5
on penalties after a 0-0 draw and a goal from Max Webber was
enough for Comets Sports to progress at the expense of
Little Gaddesden.
Team C lost 2-0 to Cuffley Warrios but Team A were
victorious overcoming Harvesters 2-1 thanks to goals from
twins Alex and Harry Gilbert.
Max Webber and Oliver Ayres scored for Comets Sports Club as
they beat Headstone Manor 2-1 in the first semi final.
Nathan Kelly scored an extra-time winner for Team A as they
beat Cuffley Warriors 3-2 in the other semi final. Alex
Gilbert and Brad Kelly-Keener scored the other goals.
Neither Team A nor Comets Sports Club could find a
breakthrough despite numerous chances in the final with the
game being decided on penalties with Comet Sports coming out
on top 6-5. The successful penalty takers for Comets were
Max Webber (two), Harvey Hartnell (two), Matt White and
Oliver Ayres after both sides had taken seven spot kicks
each.
