My name is Daniel Rogers and I am the Disability Development Officer at St.Albans City Youth.

I am a qualified Level 2 Football coach and I have over 10 years experience working with people with disabilities.  I am disabled with cerebral palsy and learning disabilities, so I know how hard it can be to have opportunities to play football, especially at school age.

I am supported by a number of volunteer coaches so that we have adequate supervision for every session.

My aim is to help more disabled people into football and to enjoy the benefits that this great sport can provide, such as health and fitness and learning to work with others. For the better players the aim is to provide them with a standard of football that helps develop their skills with the ultimate aim of representing their country in one of the National disability teams.

In April 2005 I went to Geneva to play football for England Gateway in the European Championship. In 2006 I won the Herts Sports Partnership’s prestigious Coach of Disabled Performers Award for all the work I have done for disabled sports in St. Albans for City Youth and Special Olympics. In 2008 I received recognition for Contributions to Disability Sport at the City and District of St Albans Sports Awards.

I now work within special need schools and day care centres providing sporting opportunities for people with disabilities. I am a multi sports coach for Herts Sports Partnership and a member of The FA Board Disability Equality Advisory Group.
