After seven years of hard work, on 17 September Matt Bennett was able to present his book, ‘St Albans City West 2001-2009’.

Having raised 2000 pounds each, which for me included both a monetary and kit donation from St Albans City Youth (for whom I played for 10 years), the ultimate aim of the project was to introduce Sri Lankans of all ages to new sports and activities that they do not have the opportunity to engage in with the help of sports equipment brought with us from the UK to then be left in the communities. Under 16's Girls win County Cup

Playing Fairlands Youth in the Hertfordshire FA Girls Under 16's Challenge Cup Final at the County Ground, Letchworth the City Youth Under 16's Girls finally won the match by Six (6) goals to Five (5) after taking the lead on 4 occasions, only to end up 5-4 down with 10/15 mins left.

Phil Sharp Assistant Referee Evening

Phil 'Treacle' Sharp

Phil Sharp, Premier League Assistant Referee held a workshop at Highfield Park covering many aspects of being an Assistant Referee. Phil, who was one of the Assistant Referee's at the 2002 World Cup Final, gave a very enjoyable explanation of the rules and various signs that should be used when running the line. Read more

David Beckham Academy Coaching Day - Great Success

Despite the poor weather 112 boys and girls attended the February half term David Beckham Academy Coaching Day. Each participant received a certificate. Look out for future holiday coaching events.

April 30 – May 7 - George Walker charity match evenings at Clarence Park involving under 12 boys and girls teams. All very welcome. Details to follow.

June 5 – 6 Club 6 a side. Our main fund raising event. Under 8 – under 12 teams will be taking part but all teams will benefit so we ask for help as follows:-
Friday 4th June Late afternoon marking out
Saturday 5th June Early morning setting up
Sunday 6th June P M clearing up
Saturday and Sunday Parking and manning the entry gate.

Come Along to the Spring Clean on Sunday 7^th March

The spring clean starts at 10am, with everyone meeting at West Lodge, off Hill End Lane opposite Frobisher Road, we plan to finish at 12noon. Please bring your own gardening gloves, wear strong shoes and be prepared delve into the undergrowth.

Every week the Trust litter picks in the Park. However you will be amazed at the amount of rubbish which gets blown into bushes and hidden by undergrowth etc. For more info visit www.highfieldparktrust.co.uk

Euro 2009 Tour Reports

FA and League Initiatives

Soccer Parent

Those at the December management meeting will know that the FA are introducing initiatives to improve parental behaviour at games. While this is not a major issue at the club we are required to conform.

Pitch markings - You are asked to mark a line about a yard back from the touch lines behind which supporters are required to stand. For the moments this can probably best be done by setting down a line of cones say 20 yards each side of the half way line on each side. Highfield Park are looking into whether they can put in a permanent line in the New Year (there is probably not enough room between pitches 1 and 2) but for the time being use the cones. West Herts League teams please note that this is now a league requirement

Match delegate - You are reminded that you must have a "match delegate" who is required to report to the referee 15 minutes before the game. The intention is that the referee would first approach the match delegate if concerned over any parents behaviour. Ideally this should be one of your parents (preferably not the most volatile) but could be yourself if you preferred.

As the coach of a children's team you have a lot of responsibilities. Soccer Parent is designed with coaches and parents in mind to provide guidance on specific areas that focus on the key issues involved when a child joins a football team.

As well as being designed to be informative, fun and engaging, one of the key aspects of the course is that coaches are given advice to assist in gaining positive contributions from parents as well as understanding issues on specific areas such as child welfare and attitudes.

Soccer Parent is a completely free online course that is available to anybody that registers with FA Learning – The FA’s Educational Provider. Everyone that completes the course and achieves the pass mark can immediately print off an accredited certificate directly from the website.
