Sunday 22
July saw the launch of a brand new project focusing on improving
participation amongst young people aged 11-25 with visual impairments.
Organised
by British Blind Sport, in partnership with St Albans City Youth FC and
Hertfordshire County Council, the ‘Have a go’ day attracted visually
impaired people and their families from across the region.

Ryan Armes,
Regional Development Officer for British Blind Sport, was extremely
pleased with the event. ‘It was great to see everyone enjoying
themselves, and taking part in activities that they may not get the
opportunity to do in their everyday lives. It is vital that we create
an environment in which everyone is allowed to participate in sport,
regardless of their circumstances. Hopefully this event can act as a
catalyst for the development of sport in the region for visually
impaired young people. I would like to thank everyone that helped to
make the event such a success.’

Funded
through the Big Lottery programme, British Blind Sport is trying to get
more young people involved in sport through new Regional Development
Officers working across 4 regions of the country. Ryan, who covers the
east region, is looking for as many people to get involved in the
project as possible. This not only includes visually impaired people,
but also clubs, coaches, facilities and volunteers; to ensure the
project achieves maximum impact.
There are
also a variety of other activities on offer over the summer. Please
contact Ryan on 01487 843344 or email
ryan@britishblindsport.org.uk for further information.
