CITY YOUTH -  SUCCESS IN EUROPE

St Albans City Youth F.C. were represented by 5 teams in two tournaments held in Holland this year.

The Under 18's managed by John Seeby represented the club in the 4th International Tinus Homburg tournament in Rotterdam,  hosted by our old friends at H.I.O.N.  The Under 17 West,  managed by Richard Gaskin,  Under 17 East, managed by Geoff Watts and Mark Clark, Under 15's managed by Jed Deacon and the Under 14's managed by Clive Attwood all represented the club in the North Sea Cup held at Naaldwijk hosted by RKVV Westlandia.

All 5 teams mounted a superb challenge in their respective competitions with two teams being crowned champions. John Seeby's Under 18's were crowned Champions after a series of magnificent performances in the group games,  winning their group unbeaten with 9 points.  The Under 18's played the Belgium team KSK Donk in the Semi-Final winning a hard fought match 3-0 with goals from  Paul Goom and a brace from James Armstrong.  The final paired City against the Hosts and holders of the Cup H.I.O.N.  The final was played in a magnificent spirit with City Youth winning 2 - 0 with goals from the captain Steve Seeby and James Armstrong.  The management of St Albans City Youth F.C would like to thank the organisers of the tournament for the hospitality and friendship during the Under 18's stay in Rotterdam.

Further success came the way of Richard Gaskins Under 17 West side playing in the North Sea Cup Under 18's competition.  The West side in their group matches defeated firstly the host team Westlandia in a hard fought match 2 - 1 with goals from Mitchell Parratt and Robert Davis.  Next they played and defeated 1 - 0 the Dutch side Verburch with a strike from Paul Herbert.  This was followed by a further 1 - 0 victory against AIA Trandbjerg from Denmark with a goal from Adam Garden.  In the West's last group match they lost to the German side ASV Horb 2 - 1 with the Saints goal coming from Tom Roberts,  however the Under 17 West had already done enough to reach the final. In the final the Under 17 West played Shevington Park from the UK.  The West side completed a magnificent tournament by beating Shevington Park 1 - 0 with a goal from Adam Garden and thus lifting the North Sea Cup.  Well done to Richard Gaskin and his team.

The Under 17 East side,  also playing in the Under 18 section of the North Sea Cup drew 0 - 0 with GDA from Holland,  won 4 - 0 against TSV Gadeland from Germany with goals from Tom Crowne netting a hat-trick and Jonathan Jenkins. They then lost 1 - 0 to Shevington Park They then bounced back by beating Naaldwijk 2 - 1 with goals from Arthur Hook and Nick Perchard.  This left the East side to play for 5th/6th place in the competitions.  In their last game the beat the German side ASV Hord 2 - 0 with goals from Jonathan Jenkins and Tom Whitlock.  Well done to Geoff Watts,  Mark Clark and the team.

The Under 15's in their group games firstly beat S.S. Brumath from France 2 - 1 with goals from Oliver Franks and Ben Graham.  The 15's then played Herning Fremad from Denmark winning 6 - 0 with goals from Adam Wallace*2, Tom Bedford, Craig Deacon, Sam Wilkinson and Robert Featherstone. Their last group game was against the Scottish side Forfar B.C. winning 2 - 0 with a brace of goals from Tom Bedford.  In the Semi - Final the 15's went down 1 - 0 to U.S. Forbach.  In the 3rd/4th play off match they defeated S.S. Brumath 2 - 0 with goals from Ryan Hughes and Kevin Webb.  The Under 15's also finished as Runners - Up in the Coca Cola Sponsored Penalty Shoot out.  Well done to Jed Deacon and this team.

The last City Youth Side in the North Sea Cup was the Under 14's managed by Clive Attwood.  The Under 14's emulated their older colleagues the Under 15's by also finishing in 3rd Place. In their group games they beat GDA from Holland 3 - 0 with goals from Nick Malham*3,  drew 0 - 0 with A.B. Bags Vaerd from Denmark,  won 2 - 0 against the hosts Westlandia with goals from Craig Findlay,  Jake Attwood.  They then lost out to the eventual winners Heart of Midlothian 2 - 0,  but defeated Seafar Villa from Scotland 2 - 1 with goals from Nick Malham and Allister Collins to win 3rd Place.  Well done to Clive Attwood and his players.

A magnificent performance from all of the City Youth teams taking part,  2 winners,  2 third places and a fifth place.  Well done and congratulations to all the Managers,  Officials,  Parents and most of all the players.
