Easter
Coaching Success
City Youth Provide
Girl's Coaching |
|
In conjunction with Community Leisure and
the F A 3 Lions Football programme, the Club provided two days of football
coaching for girls from school years 4, 5 and 6 during the Easter holidays.
Community Leisure contacted the girls schools and nearly 40 turned up despite
the poor weather on both days. The Club provided the coaches, including two who
gained their qualification at the courses run by the Club last Summer. The
number of girls taking part was the greatest the 3 Lions programme have had and
feed back through Community Leisure has been very encouraging. It is hoped that
this will see more girls taking up the game. |

CITY YOUTH PLAYER CALLED
INTO ENGLAND SQUAD
Former City Youth player
Craig Mackail-Smith has been called up to the England Non-League Squad for their
forthcoming fixture against Holland on 16th February.
Craig had a successful
Youth football career with City Youth, winning League and County honours in
addition to picking up the Player of the Tournament award with the Under 16’s
South during their successful tour to Holland in 2000.
He then played at the
senior level for St Albans City FC before they released him in 2003 to Arlesey Town. In 2004 he was transferred to Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee
and has been a regular for the Daggers ever since.
Well done Craig.

Well done Under
13's Girls
Letter of praise received from Stevenage Borough Juniors
Yesterday we
played St Albans City Youth U13’s girls. Unfortunately the manager could
muster only 8 players, but I would like to bring to your attention that the
girls that turned up were fantastic and a credit to their club. They gave 100%
for their manager and did their supporters and club proud. We were very
impressed at the extremely good sporting nature in which they played the
fixture. I think these girls should be commended for their efforts and playing
the game in a manor which we should all strive for. My co-Manager Tony Creek
and I, wish to extend our admiration for the girls of St Albans, hopefully they
will continue to play on within the League, although the manager did say that
he may be struggling to raise a full side.
Please pass these
comments to the St Albans Secretary, for I think their U13’s deserve
recognition for their hearty performance and marvellous attitude.

City
Youth in the Community |
|
The
young coaches of Marlborough School and St Albans City Youth had a boost
when they received more than just a "Big Mac" from MacDonald’s this week.
They received a
large box from MacDonald’s but it did not contain food , instead it was
found to hold much needed coaching sports equipment to support the
Sporting Partnership between Marlborough and St Albans City Youth.
David Wray the
Commercial Manager for City Youth said "We have been working in the
community as part of the clubs Charter status and produced 20 new coaches
of which 15 have successfully achieved the Football Association Level 1
coaching standard. This donation will help us to put the skills we have
gained into practice in St Albans. The new equipment will also encourage
more young coaches to come forward as part of our Sporting Partnership with
Marlborough School."
