Roche gets to the finish

Anthony
Roche, running the London Marathon raises over £700 for the
disabled team
Here is
Anthony's own words with a few bits added.
“I
finished and have the medal to prove it!
However
the run didn't go as hoped. I was on schedule at halfway -
1:56:40, which was 20 seconds inside my target for the first
half. Just after the 14 mile point another runner cut in
front of me chasing a bloke on a push bike, looked very much
like that Peter Towndrow character, and in trying to get out
of the way I slipped and twisted my knee. From that point on
due to the pain in my knee I was only able to run for five
minutes at a time before being forced to walk - and then due
to the pain the bits I was able to run got shorter and the
walks longer.
At around
18 miles I had the knee looked at by St John's ambulance,
who advised me to pull out. Being stubborn I refused and
carried on, although I was mainly walking from that point
on. As you will be aware the weather was awful and I ended
up soaked through and very cold. By the time I finished in
5:08:49 I was not in a good state and had to go to the first
aid tent at the finish - where they wrapped me in blankets
and after half an hour of uncontrollable shivering I began
to warm up. Had the flu for 3 days as a result
mind.
Overall
pleased I finished in the circumstances, but disappointed
that I wasn't able to do as well as I'd hoped after all the
training.”
Well done Anthony.
Will you be doing the run
next year!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

JIM BENNETT |
|
The Club is sorry to have to report the death
of Jim Bennett who was the Club's founder manager. It was in
1970 that Jim suggested the formation of an under 12 team based
on a side which had been successful in Cub football. Together
with John Churchill he took this side through to under 18
winning several trophies along the way. When these players moved
on to adult football Jim continued his involvement with the Club
as Club Chairman and then as a Vice President. It is fair to say
that if it hadn't been for Jim there would not be a St Albans
City Youth F C and hundreds of youngsters would not have had the
opportunity to play organised football. Our condolences go
to Jim's widow Mavis and to Clive and Trina. |

New Club & Charity Management Structure
|
|
A new club structure has been
introduced designed to enable City Youth to continue building its
reputation as one of the premier youth football clubs in the county.
Club Chairman Clive Attwood and
Secretary Ian Woods will run the day to day football operation and
former Chairman Mervyn Morgan will look after the Charity Board of
Trustees and Development aspects of the club.
The growth of the club in recent
years has brought forward the need to restructure and help spread
the ever increasing workload involved in running a club such as City
Youth.
The club is also please to
announce that Robert Murphy, Gill Savory, Neil Deacon
and David Wray have all agreed to join Mervyn Morgan, Jeff Lawrence
and Ian Woods on the City Youth Charity Board Of Trustees.

ST ALBANS CITY YOUTH -
GIRLS FOOTBALL
History |
|
The recent game between
Hoddesdon Owls and St Albans City Youth Under-14 Girls saw a little
bit of history being made. Before the game started, a presentation
was made to Jane Jardine to mark the fact that she was playing her
100th game for St Albans City Youth. She is the first
girl in the club to reach this achievement. She has been at every
game since her first in September 2001, missing only one when
illness forced her to give up during the warm-up.
By a strange co-incidence
Jane’s very first game was also against Hoddesdon Owls and so it was
appropriate that Colin Ince, who has done so much for Girls Football
in Hoddesdon and Hertfordshire, was able to make the presentation.
She was given a framed photograph of her with that very first St
Albans City Youth team on that September day in 2001.
The two teams then entered into
the spirit of the occasion and produced a tremendous game of
football that ended 4-4.
With the growth of girls
football in recent years it is anticipated that there will be many
more girls reaching the 100 game mark in this and following years. |

Vandals
Damage Highfield Pitches |

After spending nearly 8 years and £300k
getting the Home of City Youth at Highfield Park ready for football, a
bunch of what I can only call idiots have taken to driving cars and
motor cycles over the pitches on both fields causing damage to the
playing surfaces (See picture above).
The Police are aware,
however everyone can help, if you live near Highfield Park or are
just passing and you see these people driving around the playing
fields then call 999. If possible get the registration number of the
vehicles involved, even better if you have a camera phone take a
picture and pass it to the Police. Please remember, do not confront
these vandals, contact the Police and they will do the rest.
These vandals must be
stopped.
Highfield park is a
facility not only for City Youth but also the Local Community.
